Harlech Castle was part of Edward 1st's Iron Ring' of castles around the coast of Wales.It was designed by Master James of St George,and was begun in 1283.It took 7 years to build at a estimated cost of £8190.
The castle has seen many attacks and siege's in its time.In 1294 Madog ap Llywelyn,in 1404 the castle fell to Owain Glyndwr.In 1408 to Prince Henry (later to be King henry V.)In the War of the Roses Sir Richard Tunstall surrended in 1468 after a 7yr siege.The famous song Men Of Harlech was composed in honour of th 7yr siege 1461-1468.
During the English Civil War the castle surrended to the Parliamentery Forces (Roundheads) on the 16th March 1647.
