Cwm Idwal - Lakes
One of Wales's oldest lakes and named after Idwal, the son of Owain Gwynwdd, a King of Gwynedd, who was murdered at this spot around 1160.The approaching storm is very appropiate to its gloomy history. In a rocky cleft above the lake can also be found the rare Snowdon Lily, otherwise located only in fossils. It was on the crags here also that the first successful team to climb Mount Everst trained before setting off to the Himalayas in 1953.
