Lake-Vyrnwy
Lake Vyrnwy was created when the first stone built dam was built in the 1880's to supply Liverpool and Merseyside with water. It was started in 1881 drowning the village of Llanwddyn in the process,it was finished in 1888.A hotel was built to accommodate the sightseers, engineers and dignitaries who came to see the largest dam in Europe. The hotel is 900ft above sea level and was built from local stone. The area is a beautiful spot for walking or bike riding around the lakeside with fishing in the lake and an R.S.B.P. bird reserve of 16,000 acres.
