This mountain in Llanberis is called 'The Electric Mountain' because it is the largest underground Hydro Electric Power Station in Britain.In times of power shortage water from the reservoir on top of the mountain is allowed to fall down a shaft into the heart of the mountain to turn giant turbines in a man-made cavern carved out of the rock and into the lake at the bottom, then pumped back up when there is a surplus of electricity.Carved into the Elidir Fawr Mountain(Its proper name),the Dinorwig slate quarry was worked here from 1809 to 1969.
